Community Cooking

The Cook Well Eat Well Program iEating with friendss a partnership between the Country Womens Association, Hobart Legacy, the Community Nutrition Unit (Department of Health and Human Services) and Eat Well Tasmania, funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs until June 2010. The program aims to increase food purchasing confidence, preparation skills and cooking knowledge in the community, with a particular focus on nutritional wellbeing and people living alone.

The idea of the program is to teach people basic methods of cooking and how easy it can be to cook delicious, healthy food. The demonstrations aim to encourage confidence in the kitchen, enhance motivation to cook, and inspire community members to share their cooking skills with others.

Thanks to Susan McLeod (nutritionist and CCD trainer) and the Community Cooking Demonstrator steering committee, we now have trained volunteer demonstrators available state-wide who are available to demonstrate to your organisation.

Demonstrations generally run for 2 to 2.5 hours, are both fun and hands on, and are a great way to learn about healthy cooking from local community members.

Organisations can choose a demonstration topic from one of five modules:Leeks

  •     Breakfast
  •     Easy Baking
  •     Fish
  •     Microwave Cooking
  •     Cooking for 1 or 2

A big thank you to everyone involved with the project or who have shown their support along the way!
